Hello my fellow Feministas! It’s your most neglectful podcast friend here. To make up for last week’s lack of audio goodness, here are two excellent podcasts around one of my favorite themes: true crime!
That’s right, there are few things that I love more than crime stories (I blame a middle school discovery of all of my grandma’s murder mystery novels). And while the podcast app is a veritable smorgasbord of true crime stories, here are my two current favorites.
First, you have to listen to Criminal, a podcast from the Radiotopia family (an excellent place to get started if you’re a podcast novice, if I ever feel the need to listen to a new show I just look to see what they’ve been working on). Host Phoebe Judge tells stories “of people who’ve done wrong, been wronged, or gotten caught somewhere in the middle.”
Described to me as “Serial, but with only one episode per crime,” Criminal covers everything from identity theft, robbery, and even tree murder (that episode is a particular favorite).
The last recommendation for the week is My Favorite Murder from Feral Audio with hosts Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark.
Shout out to Amber for the recommendation! My Favorite Murder has been a very recent but totally welcome addition to my podcast life. In each episode, the two hosts tell stories about different murders well-known and obscure. Things can get a little graphic, but on the whole the show is a must-listen for any true crime aficionado.
