On Our Radar: The Female Gaze

I’m going to go ahead and start a new feature, one that won’t be tied to a certain day of the week or bound by specific content. It could be anything and anyone, ANYTHING and ANYONE that you find inspiring or thought-provoking or engaging!

Happy Sunday!

I fell into a bit of a rabbit hole today reading about the act of performing femininity. Aside from leading me to a number of badass artists, I ended up at this gem and at a more concrete definition for the female gaze (Guess what? It’s not Magic Mike, y’all!). I know it’s long but if you haven’t seen this, it is worth a watch. Break it up into bite-size chunks or watch it with a friend…I realize not everyone watches documentaries and lecture-type videos alone on Sundays.

Of note: My interest was specifically piqued by Soloway’s point about women having to earn their safety (around the 32:30 mark) and how this struggle manifests itself as the female divide; essentially, putting into words what I have been struggling to explain my entire adult life.

Let me know what you think!
