Through a small installation and three-event series, the residency and exhibit explores the souls of interactive sculpture and how they can reflect those human emotions that seem impossible to express. In Acosta’s work, objects believed to have no feeling – pain/stress/desire – become extensions of ourselves and their own beings through mechanical technology.

Fight Night: An Evening of Performance with Beca Acosta – June 20th, 2019
A night of performance featuring Acosta’s An Anger Meditation (2019), a guided meditation led by the artist focusing on those little things that you just can’t let go of and A Productive Fight (2019) , in which the artist battles her eponymous piece – The Punching Machine – a regulation-sized boxing glove motorized to take on a life of its own.
Make Your Own Quilted Lamp Sculpture With Beca Acosta – June 27th, 2019
During this three-hour workshop, participants will learn elements of wiring and create their own sculpted lamps.
Guests will also be introduced to design basics, creating these sculptures with found fabric and using textile design, color theory and light to explore/communicate expression and the feelings of the inanimate.
This sensory-based workshop focuses on mechanical technology as an emotional tool by combining the use of textiles and wiring in a non-traditional way.
Both events were a part of a month-long residency at Powrplnt presented by Disclaimer Gallery featuring the work of Beca Acosta.
